Steelgate Support Wizard

How do I increase my storage space or change other account settings?

  • To increase your storage, log into your account, and complete the Upgrade Wizard.
  • To change your restorable window or other account settings log into your account and click the "My Account" link on the right.

  • How do I export my settings such as datasets and schedule?

Under C:\Users\...\Documents\Steelgate Technologies\Scripts\Backup\, you will find a file called My Backup.nbk which stores your file selections and schedules. Save this file if you have to re-install the software so you don't have to re-enter the selections and schedule.

How do I change the installation directory when installing Steelgate Online Backup?

To install the Steelgate software in a different location than the default directory you should choose a Custom installation, instead of Typical. This will allow you to select the installation directory of your choice.

        What is the "Restorable Window"?

Steelgate Online Backup allows you to keep multiple versions of a single file on the backup server.  The Restorable Window is the amount of time the oldest version is kept before being replaced by the next oldest version to make room for the newest version.

For example, imagine you have backed up a Word document, and your restorable window is set to 30 days.  If the document changed every day and you run a backup every night, at the end of 30 days you will have 30 versions of the document from which to choose.  On the 31st day, the oldest version is replaced by the next oldest version and so on, to make room for the newest version.  This does not mean that your document is deleted from the server!

If you think you will need to restore version of your data from earlier points in time than the most recent backup, then choose a larger window.  Most users, however, only need very small window.

Important Note:  The larger a Restorable Window you have, the faster you will use your disk space because you will be keeping more versions of each file.

Where are the Steelgate log files in Windows 2008 Server?

On Win2k8 server, the c:\ProgramData directory contains the Steelgate Online Backup files you are looking for.

If you cannot see this folder, you will need to un-hide the folder by doing the following:

        • Go to the c:\ dir
        • On the menu, click Tools > Folder Options
        • Click on the "View" tab.
        • Find "Hidden files and folders" and select "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
        • Click [OK]

You  should see the ProgramData folder in the c:\ directory. Navigate through this folder and you will find the Steelgate data.

Can I backup open and locked files with the cloud backup software?

Yes. Steelgate Cloud Backup automatically allows the backup of open files including SQL Server and Exchange using the shadow copy method. If this option is disabled, files that are opened during the backup may not be backed up correctly.

This is only available on Windows XP and Windows 2003, and will only backup open files on local NTFS formatted drives.

What happens if my account is over quota?

Your account will continue to back up until 105% of its capacity. Once reaching full capacity, all future back ups will be prohibited.

I have the Enterprise package and I do not see Amazon S3 in my device tab?
